At Kabisa we have the concept of Guilds. Our Guilds are organised based on specific technology areas. For example we’ve got Guilds for Backend, Mobile, Architecture and UI/UX. Sharing knowledge and experience is the main concept.
Community
You can see these Guilds as a form of ‘community’ – a group of people who share something in common. A community can be defined by the shared attributes of the people in it and/or by the strength of the connections among them. You need a bunch of people who are alike in some way, who feel some sense of belonging or interpersonal connection and also have the same interest in technology.
Synergy
Gather these people in one room and wait for the great things to happen – Synergy will appear. According to a dictionary, the definition of synergy is when “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”
Cross-working on projects
At Kabisa we arranged our first Cloud & DevOps Community Day whose main goal was cross-working on projects from and with your colleagues, learning from each other and last but not least, having some fun. In addition, having a Guild day is a great opportunity to work on innovative projects, proof of concepts, new (DevOps) technologies or stuff you never got to know, in addition to get an insight of new services or projects done by colleagues.
After the kickoff session, we started the day with the first pairing session round. During this session everyone could learn from each other’s projects. After a catered lunch (thanks to Tamara for arranging this), the day continued with the next pairing session. After these sessions we took some time to reflect “What did I learn? Is there anything I’m going to use in my (next) project?”.
Cool stuff
The next session was about working on Innovative projects or just cool stuff in groups. To get every run smoothly, we’ve already gathered some nice topics during the week.
We ended the day with a delicious hot buffet and a very nice Kahoot Quiz (Thanks to Joeri).
